In 1948, Shastriji Maharaj Shri Dharmajivandasji Swami started the first Gurukul in India after independence. With the noble thought, “Just as much as India requires independence, an independent India requires good and noble citizens.”
Shastriji Maharaj opened the first Gurukul in Rajkot, Gujarat, with seven students. Since then, seventy-five years have passed, and today more than 50,000 students are receiving their education and Sanskars in over fifty branches across the globe.
Shastriji Maharaj based the Rajkot Gurukul system upon three key aspects: Vidya (Modern Education), Sadvidya (Traditional Education), and Brahmavidya (Spiritual Education).
Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul is organizing Amrut Mahotsav from the 22nd to the 26th of December 2022 in Rajkot, Gujarat, to celebrate this noble journey. Let’s join together to celebrate 75 Years of Rajkot Gurukul.
The Prime Minister noted that when the country became independent, “it was our responsibility to revive India’s ancient glory and our great pride in the field of education.” But, he said, “under the pressure of a slave mentality, the governments did not move in that direction. And in some matters, they went in the reverse direction. In these circumstances, once again, our saints and acharyas took up the task of fulfilling this duty towards the country. Swaminarayan Gurukul is a living example of this opportunity.”
Futuristic education system being created in the country through NEP, says PM

Amrut Mahotsav visit of Latin American devotees December 25th, 2022
With the blessing of his Holiness Shastriji Maharaj Shri DharamjivanDasji Swami and Purani Swami Premaprakash Dasji, Shri Chaturbhai Jerambhai Babaria went to study Medicine in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on January 27th, 1983. While there, he established the International Swaminarayan Spiritual Center to spread Vedic Dharma as per the teaching of Lord Swaminarayan. His Holiness Shastriji Maharaja visited Latin America in August 1986 and enlightened approximately five hundred devotees.
This Vedic teaching continues through the Gurukul institute and Shri Dhirubhai J. Babaria (Trustee of Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan) with the blessing of Shri Mahant Swami Devakrishna Dasji, Shri Devaprasad Dasji Swami and Shri Dharamvallabh Dasji. All of these events came to pass through the divine vision of Shastriji Maharaj to propagate the principles of Lord Swaminarayan.
I had the desire to propagate the message of Lord Swaminarayan since childhood, asking Maharaj to grant me this blessing in my hometown’s (Devarajia) temple. I received this blessing from Shastriji Maharaj, Purani Swami, my parents, brothers, and sisters.
